Having aspired to become a missionary at the age of 10, George Leslie Mackay began studying in the ministry by attending Knox College in Toronto and later Princeton Seminary. On July 2nd 1901 MacKay died of throat cancer in Tamsui and was buried there. He is considered an important figure in Taiwan’s history, having played a key role in the struggle for democracy in that country.
