Though the United Empire
Loyalists were the first to take up residence in the
Long Point country, the claim of first white settler
must go to an equally interesting man: Dr. John Troyer.
His reputation was such that
the government of Upper Canada gave him title to his
land, as well as special exemption from military services
on account of his religion. Dr. Troyer was considered
by most to be a sane man.
