For centuries the Attawandarons occupied the lands around
Norfolk County. The area known throughout native communities
as the 'beaver hunting ground'. Because of their ability to
stay impartial to any one side in the event of a dispute, they
were accurately known as 'the Neutrals'.
They were an advanced
agricultural society, the first to recognize the benefits
of the land for tobacco. Their tribe was strong in numbers
and
their warriors fierce. |
