Stewart James lived in Courtright working as a letter carrier for the post office. He lived with his ailing mother and was a bit of a recluse. Yet he still became one of the best known magicians in the 20th century. Stewart was master of rope tricks and was constantly feeding the magician community with new tricks. He did not perform his tricks though, he only invented them, but every October 31st he would invite magicians from all over to come and bid on his tricks. He was even known to predict the future, but he did not flaunt his skills.
He stayed with his mother throughout most of his life and wrote several books, one of which is the equivalent of the Bible for rope tricks.
