The Moravians were a Christian group that formed in Moravia, which is now part of the Czech republic. They fled to Germany in the 1700's and became a missionary society. They came to the New World by the middle of the 18th century and settled in the Pennsylvania area. Once settled, they tried to convert the local natives (the Delaware) with some success.
The Moravians were a peaceful society and abstained from war, but this fostered suspicion from the U.S.A and the British. They were forced to relocate several times due to persecution.
When a group of American Militia massacred a large number of Moravians, the survivors fled the United States and took refuge in Canada along the Thames
