A unique situation occurred in about 1914. Sir Adam Beck, he mayor of London, and man who had brought hydro to Ontario, got an imperial idea that London should have its own resort town.

Port Stanely became a tourist attraction early on. Before the days of the automobile, the London and Port Stanley Railway carried thousands to enjoy the beach and boardwalk in the early 20th century.
