Enfranchisement (giving up native rights) , the residential school system and relocation were clearly designed to eliminate the traditional culture of first nations communities.

However, there are some who defy the prevailing forces. Dr.Oronyatekha, or "Dr.O", was born on the Six Nations reserve, and went on to become one of the most powerful men in Canada.
